Studies have found that in the production of vegetables, every 1% increase in light intensity is equivalent to a 1% increase in crop yield. Therefore, the requirements of light on crops are very important. This is reflected in the glass greenhouse as the light transmittance. The glass greenhouse covering material should allow more sunlight to enter the greenhouse as much as possible to achieve the greatest potential photosynthesis.

There are two main types of glass commonly used in glass greenhouses, one is float glass for greenhouse gardening, and the other is diffuse reflection glass. Float glass has high light transmittance, up to 95%, which can ensure sufficient light in the greenhouse. Another type of glass is a newly emerging ultra-white diffuse reflection glass. Through special treatment of the surface of low-iron ultra-white glass, sunlight can be injected into the greenhouse to the maximum extent. PAR (350-750nm) can meet the needs of plant photosynthesis to the maximum. The spectrum of light can improve crop photosynthesis and increase the productivity of crops. The different treatments of the glass surface texture adjust the light scattering rate to maximize the uniformity of light, further increase the photosynthetic effective radiation in the room, follow the principle of "more light is more output", and the surface of diffuse reflective glass looks foggy, and There is a clear difference between ordinary float glass. These advantages are very helpful to the growth of crops.

The iron content in greenhouse glass also affects the overall light transmittance. The so-called "low iron" glass is more transparent than ordinary glass. Another way to allow more light to pass through the glass is to apply an antireflection coating. These permanent anti-reflective coatings can reduce the reflection level of sunlight on the glass, thereby making more light in the greenhouse. In many cases, the greenhouse glass was tempered for safety reasons. This makes the glass 4 to 7 times stronger than the default form of float glass. In addition, if the glass breaks, it will break into many small pieces, which can prevent personal injury and damage to crops. The size of the glass panels used to glaze the greenhouse depends on the aluminum system, grid spacing and back spacing.
