Plants can get "sick" too! These changes in their appearance indicate a lack of nutrients...

Did you know that plants can't speak, but they "write diaries" with their leaves? When leaves develop spots, yellowing, or curling, they're actually sending you an "SOS" signal.

Yellow leaves don't necessarily mean lack of water! These shades of yellow each have their own meaning.

1. Green veins, yellowing leaf tissue – Iron deficiency anemia – Symptoms: New leaves turn yellow first, older leaves remain green – Cause: Highly alkaline soil (common in northern regions) – Emergency treatment: Drench the roots with a diluted ferrous sulfate solution (1:1000) once a week.

2. Scorched edges of older leaves – Potassium deficiency spasm – Symptoms: Leaf edges appear scorched, gradually withering inwards – Cause: Long-term application of nitrogen fertilizer (such as urea) – Emergency treatment: Spray with wood ash leachate (1:50) twice a month.

3. Yellow-green stripes on leaves – Magnesium deficiency malnutrition - Symptoms: Yellow stripes appear between leaf veins, resembling zebra stripes.

- Cause: Acidic soils are prone to magnesium deficiency (common in southern regions) - Emergency treatment: Apply magnesium sulfate solution (1:1500) three times consecutively.

The "invisible killer" behind the spots

1. Rust spots on leaves – Zinc deficiency skin disease - Symptoms: Yellowish-brown spots appear on leaves, new leaves are deformed - Cause: Long-term use of uncomposted organic fertilizer - Emergency treatment: Spray with zinc sulfate solution (1:2000), combined with well-composted chicken manure

 2. White, scorched leaf edges – Boron deficiency metabolic disorder – Symptoms: Whitening of leaf edges, necrosis of the growing point – Cause: Boron deficiency in the soil (e.g., sandy soil) – Emergency treatment: Drench the roots with a borax solution (1:2500), focusing on the root area.

A distress signal from abnormal growth

1. Twisted and withered new shoots – Calcium deficiency rickets - Symptoms: Terminal buds die, new leaves curl like chicken feet - Cause: Long-term watering with purified water (lack of minerals) - Emergency treatment: Apply eggshell powder (containing 38% calcium), or spray with calcium chloride solution.

2. Small and brittle leaves – Copper deficiency stunting – Symptoms: Thin leaves, easily broken, leaf edges curling inward – Cause: Soil pH too high (>7.5) – Emergency treatment: Apply copper sulfate solution (1:3000) combined with humic acid
